I’ve been thinking a lot about the way we talk about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its dangers. It seems like everyone’s obsessed with regulating AI because it’s ‘so dangerous.’ But let’s take a step back and look at some of the things we’ve been doing for years that are actually killing people. We’re talking about things like cars, alcohol, tobacco, junk food, and more. These things are marketed to us as fun and convenient, but they’re actually causing millions of deaths every year.
So, why are we so focused on AI when it’s clear that there are far more pressing dangers in our daily lives? I think it’s because AI is new and shiny, and we’re afraid of what it might do. But AI is just a tool, and like any tool, it can be used for good or bad. We need to be careful about how we regulate it, but we also need to be honest about the dangers that are right in front of us.
I’m not saying that AI is harmless, but it’s not the biggest danger we face either. Let’s not forget about the real risks in our lives and focus on making our world a safer place.
It’s time to take a closer look at our priorities and figure out what’s really important. Are we more concerned with protecting ourselves from the unknown dangers of AI, or are we more concerned with making a profit from the things that are actually killing us? The choice is ours.
